She knew some would lie about her
“A Long List of False Statements Expected—I expect now that a long list of false statements will be presented to the world, and that lie upon lie, misstatement upon misstatement, which Satan has originated in the minds of individuals, will by some be accepted as truth. But I leave my case in the hands of God, and those who know my life practice will not receive the lies that are spoken.” —Letter 22, 1906.

Many have asked me this question whenever they come across some of her writings on my site. Out of the thousands of pages on this site I may have two dozen or so pages that have some of Ellen Gould White's writings on them. If more understood who she was, I would have far more of course. But for the sake of those who don't study as deep as others into prophetic events and don't follow the church's historic movements, I keep her writings mostly off the site. Another main reason is my ministry brings me mostly to Catholics, and other denominations that simply don't know of her. So I usually stick with Scriptures as most trust the Word. Some may look at a quote from Ellen White and figure, "she's just a women with an opinion, so I can take or leave her advice." But they cannot do that with the Word, so I usually hold off on Sister White for the sake of preventing the "option" to blow off truth.

There are times though that I just can't ignore the opportunity to share excerpts from her writings because she words things so blunt and so biblically on target that I feel compelled to share. That is why you see "some" of her work on this site. But.. who is she?

In brief, she was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world. During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender. Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams. The visions varied in length from less than a minute to nearly four hours. The knowledge and counsel received through these revelations she wrote out to be shared with others. Thus her special writings are accepted by Seventh-day Adventists as inspired, and their exceptional quality is recognized even by casual readers. As stated in Seventh-day Adventists Believe . . . , “The writings of Ellen White are not a substitute for Scripture. They cannot be placed on the same level. The Holy Scriptures stand alone, the unique standard by which her and all other writings must be judged and to which they must be subject” (Seventh-day Adventists Believe . . . , Ministerial Association, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Washington D.C., 1988, p. 227). Yet, as Ellen White herself noted, “The fact that God has revealed His will to men through His Word, has not rendered needless the continued presence and guiding of the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, the Spirit was promised by our Saviour to open the Word to His servants, to illuminate and apply its teachings” (The Great Controversy, p. vii). The following is a more detailed account of the life and work of this remarkable woman who, meeting all the tests of a true prophet as set forth in the Holy Scriptures, helped found the Seventh-day Adventist church. -Ellen White: A Brief Biography

What she a prophet? Before I give my "opinion" I would like you to ask yourself one question. Has not God always had a prophet for every age of His church? The age we live in is no exception. On this site is a page entitled, "Keys to a True Prophet." On that page are many key features that both identify the prophet as well as their actions. It has been documented for all to see that Ellen G. White did in fact bear all the keys of a true prophet of God. With that said I would like to share with you an email I received on June 24, 2006 that has been shared with people from all walks of life that verifies and even confirms what I have shared here. Turns out some Rabbi's got a hold of Ellen White's work and found some rather exciting hidden truths that most readers of her work ever knew. I pray you are blessed by it...

 A Friend sent us this wonderful testimony of a Jewish Rabbi, who read Patriarchs and Prophets and accepted Jesus as his Saviour .

A Jewish Rabbi and Ellen White

As told by Elfred Lee (Biography of Elfred Lee, artist): http://dialogue.adventist.org/articles/07_1_rasi_e.htm

Rabbi Josef (Joe) Kagan is an Eastern European Jew. His family immigrated to the United States when he was still a quite young. Musically gifted and born with a beautiful singing voice, he made his debut at age 13 in New York's famous Carnegie Hall. He later became a cantor, and then a rabbi. Several years later, he also became a member of the research staff of the then-Governor Ronald Reagan in Sacramento.

For a long time, Rabbi Kagan had very negative feelings towards Christianity and Christians because of an unfortunate incident which occurred in Europe when he was still a child; an aunt was raped by some "Christian" while a priest who held a crucifix stood over her said: "This is what you get for killing Christ." Because of his animosity as a result of her aunt's having been violated by some "Christians", he refused to touch the New Testament for a long time. However, he knew the Jewish Old Testament [Torah] extremely well as a highly-educated rabbi. Fortunately, he later learned that American Christians are not at all like her aunt's European "Christian" assaulters.

It was in 1978 at the Weimar Institute in Weimar, California where Rabbi Kagan and I got acquainted. He was already getting up in years then. After our initial meeting, my family and I developed a beautiful friendship with Joe, his wife, and his son. As our friendship blossomed, we started to study the Bible together and read some of Ellen White's books.

It was during one of our Bible study sessions that he told us an interesting story about how he somehow got hold of a book called Patriarchs and Prophets by Ellen G. White. After reading it, he was very impressed at the way it was written, and wanted to know who this Ellen White was. And then he asked my wife and me: "Who is this Ellen G. White anyway? What university did she attend? "When we told him that she had a third grade education only, he was amazed "Then, where did she learn Hebrew?" he further inquired. We told him that, to our knowledge, she did not learn any Hebrew. The more he became amazed. He told us that the information in the book is mishnaic, and the Mishnah, which is part of the Hebrew scholarship, was translated into English only in the 1940s, and that only high-level rabbis are acquainted with the information in the Mishnah. Joe further told us that, what Ellen White wrote in Patriarchs and Prophets was the history of his [Jewish] people and it was very accurate. Moreover, one had to know Hebrew to be able to write like the way she did; her sentence structure was Hebrew---the rhythm, the meter, the arrangement of words and expressions, she wrote as if she was a Hebrew and her writing was just translated into English. Then he surprisingly told us: “I am convinced that Ellen White was inspired by the same source that inspired the Hebrew prophets. Now, I am ready to become a Christian and accept Jesus Christ as my Messiah." I somehow feel that even though the Hebrew Scripture is full of prophecies pointing to the Messiah, it took Ellen White's writings to prove to him that Jesus Christ was indeed the fulfillment of all the Hebrew messianic prophecies. And only then did Joe finally pick up the New Testament and read about Jesus Christ, the Messiah, who was a Jew! Many times, I have seen Joe shed tears---for whatever reason, I don't know and I never felt comfortable enough to ask; so, let's just say, I'd like to believe that it is probably because of "his joy in finally finding the Lord". Before Joe and I got acquainted, I was commissioned to paint a mural called "Christ, The Way of Life" for the world headquarters of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, just outside Washington, DC. And when Joe and I met, I was in the middle of painting the mural. The painting is based on another artwork originally "inspired" by Ellen and James White, who had commissioned an engraver to do a black and white drawing of the same subject. For some reason, Joe became very interested in the painting, and he confirmed [to me] that Ellen & James White's concept about the whole plan of salvation as  written in both the Old and New Testament was very accurate, but that somehow the engraver had misrepresented her concepts. And for some reason Joe became "quite involved" with the painting to the point where he helped me in making the details of the painting historically and theologically accurate, especially those regarding the sanctuary, the Hebrew writing on the cross, and the scene of the last supper. It was Joe who suggested to paint Jesus and His disciples in an oriental style scene, sitting on mats on the floor---not on Roman couches like some of the European artists did. He also recommended that the heads of Christ and the disciples should be covered, and to make sure that I painted the wine, the unleavened bread, and the bitter herbs "according to the exact symbols" that they were supposed to represent. Joe even made the first "stamp of approval" of the whole painting before its official unveiling.

In late 1979, the painting was unveiled during a ceremony at the Auburn [California] Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Joe even wrote a song based on one of Jesus' last words on the cross: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" [My God, My God why have You forsaken me?] to go with the painting. And at the unveiling, seated at the organ, Joe sang---his entire body shook as he sang and openly wept. His singing was so beautiful and so moving that there was not one dry eye in the congregation that day.

The original painting now hangs in the new Seventh-Day Adventist world headquarters in Maryland. I could never have done the mural accurately and correctly without the inspiration of Rabbi Joe Kagan and Ellen White. I wish they were still alive!

On Saturday, December 22, 1979, my wife and I were at Joe's secret baptism in the Bear River near Sacramento. There were only four of us present---the minister, Joe, my wife, and I. For whatever his reason might be, he decided not to tell his wife and son that he had become a Christian. As he came up out of the cold water praising God and singing to his new Messiah, he said, "I am now a completed Jew. I have now accepted the Old and New Testament and the Messiah that all Jewish prophets talked about!"

On a recent trip to Europe where I presented workshops on art and some of my archeological work in the Middle East. I happened to meet a Jewish family from Israel. Shalom David is originally from Iraq and his wife is from Chile, and they have become Christians. They are attending college in Europe. Shalom David and his wife invited me to their home for supper on Friday night [Shabbat]. It was a most enjoyable evening as he, his wife and their beautiful children sang and celebrated the arrival of Sabbath as Jews have done for thousands of years. As we ate, I told them the story of Rabbi Kagan, and they got very excited. Shalom said, "Believe it or not, the same thing happened to me! I would have rather burned the Bible than touch it! I wanted nothing to do with Christianity, but after I read the writings of Ellen White, somehow I felt that the Spirit of God was on that woman. Her writings are as if she wrote in Hebrew. You can definitely hear the Hebrew rhythm, meter and expressions in her books. I also believe she was inspired by the same source as the Hebrew prophets. And she has helped me fall in love with Jesus Christ as my Messiah." [Let me point out that, there is presently quite a bit of opposition to Ellen White's writings in Europe.]

After returning from Europe, for some reason, I met another rabbi living here in California, Rabbi Ben, who invited me and a group of Seventh-Day Adventists for guess what? Supper on Friday evening [Shabbat], He went through the whole pre-Sabbath meal ceremony just like Rabbi Kagan and my other new found friend [Shalom David] in Europe. During the meal, I told the group about Rabbi Kagan and Shalom David's separate experiences in "accidentally" reading Ellen White's book, Patriarchs and Prophets. Surprisingly Rabbi Ben said that he had a similar experience. He hated the Bible, particularly the New Testament, until he read Ellen White's book which somehow opened his eyes and "brought him to Christ" and which helped him to read the New Testament and to fall in love with the Messiah.

Rabbi Ben's initial encounter with Ellen White's Patriarchs and Prophets took place while visiting one of the most influential rabbis in America, whose name he preferred not to mention [to protect the rabbi]. As the other rabbi and Rabbi Ben chatted, somehow Rabbi Ben could not help but scan the other rabbi's extensive collection of books which lined an entire wall of the other rabbi's home library, and there he saw the book Patriarchs and Prophets by Ellen White. Apparently, Rabbi Ben must have previously heard or known of Ellen White because he asked the other rabbi about Ellen White's book, where he got it, and why he would have a book by a Christian author in his library. The other rabbi simply replied, "It is a very authoritative source about our history as Jewish people."

Finally, somehow the 3ABN television network people got wind of my experiences, and I was invited to share on television my encounters with the three Orthodox Jews-turned-Christian because of Ellen White's Patriarchs and Prophets. After my TV appearance, my telephone has rung day and night with calls from people from as far away as India and Australia telling me that they want to know more about Ellen White and the Jewish Christian converts.

As I have said many times before, if you really want to experience to Word of God in a more clear manner, try this. Some of you use "bible helps" from a diverse group of authors like Spurgeon, Easton, and even Scofield. Why not try this one time. Each morning as you read the Word, try reading one chapter at a time. After each chapter look into Sister White's writings to see what she says about that particular chapter. (You can access her work online here) After doing this for a few days you will find that she never uses words like the others. Words like "maybe", "perhaps", "could be", and "possible" are NEVER found in her explanations of the Scriptures. Reason being is, like a true prophet will always do, she points RIGHT TO THE VERSE in the Scripture that explains the one in question. It's amazing how much you may be missing! So far, everyone I shared this method of study with have 100% of the time closed the "bible helps" from the other "authors" to never peer into again and opened Ellen White's books!

Try it! What have you got to lose?

For those claiming Ellen White is a False Prophet.

Online you will find many websites claiming Ellen White is a false prophet, a plagiarist, and some even claim she is a witch. When I first heard of her I ran into these websites and the quotes they said were from her seemed very convincing that yes she was evil. Then I ran across the "official" Ellen White website that stores her writings and I soon started to realize something rather strange. She appeared well versed in Scripture with an uncanny ability to define prophetic symbolism as well as doctrine, and I wasn't seeing the strange quotes the anti-Ellen White sites claimed were authentic. I also noticed the "official" site had a search engine built in it. So I decided to go back to those anti-Ellen White websites and found something quite interesting. On those anti-Ellen White websites they had certain quotes from her that appeared to make her come off as false. So, I copied the quotes into the computer's clipboard. (highlight a sentence or two, and hit CTRL C) Then I pasted those quotes (CTRL V) into the search engine box on the offical Ellen White website, and here's what I found...

With that said... the fact they attack her using such deceptive methods proves one thing. Satan fears her!

Ellen White and the Bible

Lately there has been a movement among some SDA's and some ex-SDA's wherein they claim Sister White's writings actually supersede the Bible. I've seen this happening for quite some time now and I believe it's time it is addressed. Please see the following quotes from her writings that should put an end to this controversy. And by the way, The term "study the bible" comes up 220 times in her writings.

"If you had made God’s word your study, with a desire to reach the Bible standard and attain to Christian perfection, you would not have needed the Testimonies. It is because you have neglected to acquaint yourselves with God’s inspired Book that He has sought to reach you by simple, direct testimonies, calling your attention to the words of inspiration which you had neglected to obey, and urging you to fashion your lives in accordance with its pure and elevated teachings.

The Lord designs to warn you, to reprove, to counsel, through the testimonies given, and to impress your minds with the importance of the truth of His word. The written testimonies are not to give new light, but to impress vividly upon the heart the truths of inspiration already revealed. Man’s duty to God and to his fellow man has been distinctly specified in God’s word; yet but few of you are obedient to the light given. Additional truth is not brought out; but God has through the Testimonies simplified the great truths already given and in His own chosen way brought them before the people to awaken and impress the mind with them, that all may be left without excuse." -Testimonies for the Church Volume 2, Page 605

Wrong Use of the “Testimonies”
The first number of the Testimonies ever published contains a warning against the injudicious use of the light which is thus given to God's people. I stated that some had taken an unwise course; when they had talked their faith to unbelievers, and the proof had been asked for, they had read from my writings instead of going to the Bible for proof. It was shown me that this course was inconsistent and would prejudice unbelievers against the truth. The Testimonies can have no weight with those who know nothing of their spirit. They should not be referred to in such cases. {CCh 95.2}

When speaking of her writings she said,

Ellen White Calls Her Writings a Lesser Light.--Little heed is given to the Bible, and the Lord has given a lesser light to lead men and women to the greater light.--The Review and Herald, Jan. 20, 1903. (Quoted in Colporteur Ministry, p. 125.)  {3SM 30.4}

     Tested by the Bible.--The Spirit was not given--nor can it ever be bestowed--to supersede the Bible; for the Scriptures explicitly state that the Word of God is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested. . . . Isaiah declares, "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" (Isaiah 8:20).--The Great Controversy, Introduction, p. vii.  {3SM 30.5}

The Bible a Light for My Way
"
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105.

"Most wondrous book! bright candle of the Lord!
      Star of eternity!
the only light
      By which the bark of man can navigate
      The sea of life, and gain the coast of bliss securely."  {OHC 31.1}

     Why should not this book--this precious treasure--be exalted and esteemed as a valued friend? This is our chart across the stormy sea of life. It is our guide-book, showing us the way to the eternal mansions, and the character we must have to inhabit them. There is no book the perusal of which will so elevate and strengthen the mind as the study of the Bible. Here the intellect will find themes of the most elevated character to call out its powers. There is nothing that will so endow with vigor all our faculties as bringing them in contact with the stupendous truths of revelation. The effort to grasp and measure these great thoughts expands the mind. We may dig down deep into the mine of truth, and gather precious treasures with which to enrich the soul. Here we may learn the true way to live, the safe way to die.  {OHC 31.2}

     A familiar acquaintance with the Scriptures sharpens the discerning powers, and fortifies the soul against the attacks of Satan. The Bible is the sword of the Spirit, which will never fail to vanquish the adversary. It is the only true guide in all matters of faith and practice. The reason why Satan has so great control over the minds and hearts of men is that they have not made the Word of God the man of their counsel, and all their ways have not been tried by the true test. The Bible will show us what course we must pursue to become heirs of glory.  {OHC 31.3}

     As the heart is opened to the entrance of the Word, light from the throne of God will shine into the soul. That Word, cherished in the heart, will yield to the student a treasure of knowledge that is priceless. Its ennobling principles will stamp the character with honesty and truthfulness, temperance and integrity." {OHC 31.4}

"Church members, ask God to give you a burden to open the Scriptures to others and to do missionary work for those who need help. Some will be rescued in one way and some in another, but the work must always be done as the Lord shall lead. . . . Let the publications containing Bible truth be scattered like the leaves of autumn. Lift Him up, the Saviour of souls, lift Him up higher and still higher. . . ."  {HP 323.3}

"Camp Meeting Bible Class Conducted by Women. --Our camp meetings are to be conducted in such a way that they shall be schools for the education of workers. We need to have a better understanding of the division of labor, and educate all how to carry each part of the work successfully. . . . Let short discourses be given, and then let Bible classes be held. Let the speaker be sure to rivet the truth upon minds. Intelligent women, if truly converted, can act a part in this work of holding Bible classes. There is a wide field of service for women as well as for men."--Letter 84, 1910.  {Ev 473.5}

"The urgent necessities that are making themselves felt in this time demand a constant education in the word of God. This is present truth. Throughout the world there should be a reform in Bible study, for it is needed now as never before. As this reform progresses, a mighty work will be wrought; for when God declared that His word should not return unto Him void, He meant all that He said. A knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ "whom He has sent" is the highest education, and it will cover the earth with its wonderful enlightenment as the waters cover the sea.  {6T 131.2}

     Bible study is especially needed in the schools. Students should be rooted and grounded in divine truth. Their attention should be called, not to the assertions of men, but to the word of God. Above all other books, the word of God must be our study, the great textbook, the basis of all education; and our children are to be educated in the truths found therein, irrespective of previous habits and customs. In doing this, teachers and students will find the hidden treasure, the higher education.  {6T 131.3}

     Bible rules are to be the guide of the daily life. The cross of Christ is to be the theme, revealing the lessons we must learn and practice. Christ must be brought into all the studies, that students may drink in the knowledge of God and may represent Him in character. His excellence is to be our study in time as well as in eternity. The word of God, spoken by Christ in the Old and New Testaments, is the bread from heaven; but much that is called science is as dishes of human invention, adulterated food; it is not the true manna.  {6T 132.1}

     In God's word is found wisdom unquestionable, inexhaustible--wisdom that originated, not in the finite, but in the infinite mind. But much of that which God has revealed in His word is dark to men, because the jewels of truth are buried beneath the rubbish of human wisdom and tradition. To many the treasures of the word remain hidden, because they have not been searched for with earnest perseverance until the golden precepts were understood. The word must be searched in order to purify and prepare those who receive it to become members of the royal family, children of the heavenly King.  {6T 132.2}

     The study of God's word should take the place of the study of those books that have led minds into mysticism and away from the truth. Its living principles, woven into our lives, will be our safeguard in trials and temptations; its divine instruction is the only way to success. As the test comes to every soul, there will be apostasies. Some will prove to be traitors, heady, high-minded, and self-sufficient, and will turn away from the truth, making shipwreck of faith. Why? Because they did not live "by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." They did not dig deep and make their foundation sure. When the words of the Lord through His chosen messengers are brought to them, they murmur and think the way is made too strait. In the sixth chapter of John we read of some who were thought to be disciples of Christ, but who, when the plain truth was presented to them, were displeased and walked no more with Him. In like manner these superficial students also will turn away from Christ.  {6T 132.3}

     Everyone who has been converted to God is called upon to grow in capability by using his talents; every branch of the living Vine that does not grow is pruned off and cast away as rubbish. What, then, shall be the character of the education given in our schools? Shall it be according to the wisdom of this world or according to that wisdom that is from above? Will not teachers awake to their responsibility in this matter and see that the word of God has a larger place in the instruction given in our schools?"  {6T 133.1}
