The largest independent blood bank in the United States has issued a public
warning to thousands of transfusion recipients in three cities, saying the
blood they might have received was improperly tested for the AIDS virus and
hepatitis. Recipients in Chicago, Pittsburgh and Memphis, Tennessee, were
recently notified by the center. No viral infections have been reported in
connection with blood used in transfusions in any of the cities from 1991 to
1996, blood center officials said Wednesday.

AUTHORITIES SAY MAN ADMITS TO UP TO 50 CHURCH ARSONS

An Indiana man has allegedly admitted to setting fire to as many as 50
churches
in 11 states, and claims he began his spree with two others who helped him
burn
a church in a satanic ritual. The arrest of Jay Scott Ballinger of Indiana

made with the help of the National Church Arson Task Force, the U.S.

of Justice announced Tuesday. Ballinger, 36, has been charged with setting
